Help II

Homeless Employment Life Skills

The Help II Program was established at the Community Kitchen through a grant from HUD in April, 1997. It is a six to eight week program in which consumers are taught Job Readiness and Life Skills courses, to prepare them to return to the job market with viable job placement skills.

The program utilizes three case managers:

  1. The "Employment Counselor" conducts intakes and assessments on each consumer and assesses them for classroom needs, as well as, referring them out to other agencies within the community if there are underlying problems associated with alcohol and drug issues or mental health issues.

  2. The "Job Advocate" develops contacts with various employers with in the community that will agree to employ consumers who have gone through our program. Each consumer will then be assessed for job placement and their progress will be tracked for up to 90 days.

  3. The "General Case Manger" is housed in the Homeless Health Care Center, and is involved in assessing consumers during outreach at the various shelters within the community. They also assesses each consumers housing needs and make referrals to several agencies within the community.
